What is dermatology?

Dermatology is a medical field that specializes in the skin, its structure, functions, and diseases.

What is a dermatologist?

A dermatologist is a doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions.

Do I need a referral to see the dermatologist at York Dermatology Clinic?

All patients require a doctor’s referral from their GP or a walk-in clinic in order to be seen by a dermatologist at our clinic.

Is York Dermatology Clinic accepting new patients?

We are always accepting new patients with referrals.

I have questions about my skin condition and wonder how much your different treatments cost?

We offer a variety of treatment options for different skin conditions. A consultation is necessary to properly assess the affected area in order to determine the best options for treatment. Pricing is tailored to the treatment and will be discussed at the consultation appointment.

What creams, lotions, shampoos and products should I be using on my skin?

We are happy to recommend product options for your skin type or condition during your consultation in order to make a proper assessment.

How long will my appointment be?

We make every effort to see you in a timely manner however, because we are a specialized practice, there may be instances when an urgent case needs to be seen quickly, which may increase your wait time.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

We ask that you provide a notice to cancel or change an appointment no less than 48 hours before your appointment. Failure to do so will result in a $75 charge.

At what age is it recommended to introduce daily skin care products?

The earlier the better! Adolescence is the best time to start a basic regimen in order to create and maintain healthy skin care habits.

How do I get more refills for my prescription?

In many cases, your pharmacist can send a faxed request for more refills however you may be required to attend the clinic for a follow-up appointment before obtaining a refill on oral or injectable medications.

What if I lose my prescription?

We offer direct faxing of prescriptions to the pharmacy of your choice for your convenience and in order to avoid any lost prescriptions.

What if I have a side effect from my prescription?

Discontinue your medication and notify the clinic if you have an adverse reaction to your medication. If you are experiencing side effects after-hours, on the weekend, or on a holiday please contact your family doctor or proceed to your nearest walk-in clinic or emergency room.
